Lightening Alarm and Safety

Our monthly staff safety meeting on Tuesday focused on Lightening Safety.  I thought it would be a good idea to highlight that here.

If lightening is detected within 5 miles, the alarm will sound.  It will sound like a fire truck or other emergency vehicle.  The all clear sounds like a busy signal on a telephone.  It takes 30 minutes of no lightening strikes in order for the 'all clear' horn to go off.  If lightening is detected again from the initial time, the timer resets to 30 minutes.

Seek shelter immediately.  Do NOT sit under the rain shelters on the golf course.  Make your way back to the clubhouse.  Staff is NOT permitted to go out on the course to get members and guests.  When the signal sounds, everyone is responsible for their own well being and safety.

Please take lightening seriously.  In an environment with a lot of rock,  trees and open areas, we are very prone to strong storms and the results could be fatal.
