Greens Verticutting

 
This morning we are using our verticutting reels for the first time this year.  Verticutting, or grooming in this case, helps speed up the greens by thinning the turf canopy.  Also, it stands the turf upright which we immediately mow the opposite direction of the verticutter.  You can see the unit above- it is like 35 small table saw blades that are set to a depth of .125"- just enough to get through the turf.  This is a process we perform about every 2-3 weeks. 
 
 
Below, you can make out the tiny grooves it puts in the green.  This is also a good program to combine with a light sand topdressing because the sand is able to settle in the channels.
