Friday Observations

What a difference a few days make!  Our seeded turf at the pavilion is really coming in nicely.  By next week, it will look like this project was completed years ago!

It is that time of year when the heat and humidity start encouraging fungal disease problems.  This is a picture of some dollar spot working an area in the rough.  We will  spray roughs (on a curative basis) as needed but due to budget constraints, we focus on the areas where a majority of the game is played.  Greens, Tees and Fairways are all treated preventatively on 21 day intervals.  Greens, due to their extreme importance, are treated weekly.  Turfgrass fungicide programs are very expensive.  For example, to treat 22 acres of fairways at HCC can cost over $5,000.  That is just one application.  As I just mentioned, we spray every 21 days which works out to about 12 applications a year.  That is $60,000 annually for fairways alone.
