Cup cutter

One of the everyday tools of the superintendent: the cup cutter. Even this tool requires weekly maintenance to keep the cup cutter nice and sharp in order to cut nice, crisp holes.  We change hole locations 7 days a week at HCC.  This takes its toll on the cutting shell and replacement is required 1-2x per year.  Look how much shorter the shell on the left is. This is wear and tear from sticking the cup cutter in sand and then sharpening it weekly. In 6 months, we lost 1" of metal! Sand is very abrasive to metal. Top dressing sand for example, is very damaging to mower reels.
