Croquet seed germination

After just 4 days since seeding, the perennial ryegrass between the new stone work at the pavilion is germinating.  That shows you how quickly we can get Ryegrass seed up if the conditions are perfect.  By perfect, I mean plenty of water, nutrients and sunlight.  On the golf course and driving range, seed does not germinate this quickly because we can't keep the fairways wet for playability reasons.  Ryegrass is the fastest germinating seed.  Other turf species like fine fescues and bentgrass take 10-14 days to germinate given ideal conditions.  We are going to apply another starter fertilizer application today to get the grass established as quickly as possible.
