agronomic programs

This photo of a pulled cup on the 3rd green reveals proof of a solid aerification program.  Note the newer white sand that dilutes the organic matter in the top 2".  This means there is plenty of room for oxygen which in turn, means a solid root system.  In the long run, this means with a program like this, these greens will last as long as the membership wants them too.  All too often, Superintendents are forced to back off agronomic programs in order to accommodate more golf play.  Eventually, the greens drainage will fail and the course will need to shut down for renovation or live with poor conditions.  So what started as a way to push more rounds turns out hurting the course in a big way!
