While keeping up with my fellow superintendent on the Old Course at St. Andrews, I saw this photo of the rebuilding of Cottage Bunker on the Old Course. 14 years ago, I was involved in the exact same project in the same bunker. The Old Course has over 200 revetted bunkers (AKA sod wall) and they need to be rebuilt every 5-6 years. However, there are a couple bunkers like "Hell Bunker" on the Road Hole that need rebuilt every 2 years....why???? Because every tourist in St. Andrews wants their playing partner to photograph them attempting to hit out of the famous bunker...and for those that played it, know it often times takes more than 1 or 2 tries! The more sand that is splashed on the faces of these bunkers leads to their deterioration. Living in St. Andrews for a year was some of the most memorable times in my life for both my wife, Hilary and I.
