Greens Venting

This morning we are completing another round of greens verting using 1/4" hollow tines, This allows oxygen exchange in the root zone and will hold us over to our big 3/4" hollow tine aerification on November 26th. This process causes minimal distruption to golfers and offers a lot of agronomic benefits. Tomorrow, we will be aerifying the 12th fairway. This fairway requires more aggressive aerification because it is sand capped and contructed much like a golf green. If we were not very aggressive, the fairway would become very soft and "thatchy." This afternoon when the turf dries, we will be topdressing the greens. We will give them a couple days off from mowing to allow them to heal. Mowing greens with sand on them causes abrasion that is slow to heal this time of year. Obviously, the turf is not actively growing like it was a month ago.
