Today was our final fairway fungicide/ growth regulator and fertilizer spray app of 2012. At this point of the year, turfgrass pathogens like dollar spot, brown patch etc become subdued simply because of the colder temperatures. This is why we are able to back off spraying during late fall, winter and early spring. We also will be venting a couple greens this afternoon with 1/4" hollow tines. There are several greens like #1,2,6 and 16 that receive little, if any, sunlight this time of year. On top of that, the heavy rain events over the past month make matters worse by saturating the soil. In turn, it is not uncommon to experience thinning of turf in microenvironments like this.
