Duck House

Jerry Dalton and Co continued the work on the duck house today. You can see in the eves, we are leaving small holes in the ends open to create additional Barn Swallow habitat. These interesting birds are common in and around the bridge and rain structure on #18. Barn Swallows are strongly migratory, and their wintering grounds cover much of the Southern Hemisphere as far south as central Argentina, the Cape Province of South Africa, and northern Australia. Its huge range means that the Barn Swallow is not endangered, although there may be local population declines due to specific threats, such as the construction.
The cedar shake roof is nearly complete. The walls are constructed of board and batton siding while the gable ends contain poplar bark. It is painted white and will have a structure on the top that is identical to the one on #18 rain shed at the ladies tee.
