Today we covered the 16th green to protect it from colder temperatures in this shady spot. Each year, we cover several of the greens which promotes faster green up and growth in late winter/early spring. The covers protect the greens by keeping the temperature about 10 degrees warmer under them and also keep the drying winds off of the turf. With the amount of wind we receive in Highlands during the winter, they are difficult to keep in place. Wooden pallets are used to secure the green covers. In the next couple weeks, I will be covering several other greens including 2, 8 and 15.
