Regardless of whether you like curbing on the golf course or not, there are many obvious benefits. Just compare these two photos. Curbing not only forces golfers to keep all four tires on the cart path, but it also serves a great way to divert surface water away from fairways. Just look at the work we did on #12 two years ago. I realize there are members that may feel some of our curbing is inconvenient and I can appreciate that. However, in my opinion, the slight inconvenience is worth the improvement in turf quality in those areas. Provided the Green Committee approves, there is a never-ending list of areas that I'd like to curb and we plan to chip away at that list over time, specifically in the winter months. 95% of these areas are along tee and green complexes, where carts should remain on the paths.
Below is a photo of #3. Another thing you can do to help keep the golf course in great condition, is being sure all four tires stay on asphalt in 'cart path only' situations. This is definitely a challenge because it's human nature to want to pull off to the side when you park your golf cart. I struggle to do this as well and it does take a conscience effort to not put two tires in the grass. However, if we all make that effort, areas like this would be minimal. Just something else to think about...
