With the irrigation system pretty much complete, a bulk of the contractor’s labor is now focused on bunkers. If you were to tour the front nine today, you’d see that all of the bunkers have had the sand removed, down to the gravel layer. You would also see a serious of white stakes that are marking the “top line” of each bunker. It’s important to understand what the top line means. At Highlands CC, we have grass faced bunkers. This is opposed to other golf courses where large flashes of sand are used opposed to turf. The top line marks the top of the slope, not the edge of the sand. The white stakes are the point where the grass starts to fall toward the bunker. This means there is still several feet or more of grass before it transitions to sand. When you see the white stakes, it’s easy to panic, thinking the bunkers will be changed into something massive, when that’s just not the case.
