There are a few areas in out of play rough and rough in general that have gotten a little thin from the off and on drought we've faced this year. Michael is using a walk behind aerator to poke some holes in these areas and then broadcast ryegrass seed over them. This will ensure they recover faster than if we did nothing. This is the main down side of having bentgrass in the roughs. The species isn't near as drought and heat tolerant as Kentucky Bluegrass or Tall Fescue. In the mountains, with our temperate rainforest climate, bentgrass will invade roughs and it is extremely difficult to control it. It's possible to slow it down with certain chemistries, but eradicating it is near impossible.
