Ballmarks are an issue at every golf course and Highlands CC is no exception. There are a handful of golfers, for whatever reason, refuse to repair the damage they created on a putting green.
This summer, we have a larger than normal staff. Each spring, I will over commit to a number of local students, because there are always those that for whatever reason, don't work out or back out of the position once they finish the school year. This year, each and every person that applied has fully committed and is enjoying the job! This gives us the opportunity to do a few things we otherwise wouldn't do. We started today having two of our student team members go green to green, fixing unrepaired or improperly repaired ballmarks. Using a 1/2" soil probe, they plug the center of the ballmark out, fill it with dry sand and then push the sides together like you would on any ballmark. While this is one of those projects that shouldn't be necessary because it is the golfer's responsibility, I think it will help keep the greens in great condition over the summer.
