Fine Fescue Areas

This past winter was harsh on these natural areas on the golf course. In order to get them back in better condition, we are manually raking all of the areas to thin out the dead/old turf and then lightly seeding the areas with a fine fescue blend; a combination of Chewing's, Hard and Sheep's Fesue.  A light seeding rate is key to the success of these areas because it allows the grass to establish in a Clumpy-like fashion where the grass isn’t competing with one another for nutrients and water. This light seeding rate also ensures the grass will mature much faster.  These areas have a number of benefits on steep slopes. First, they are more attractive than the alternative, they save labor by not having to weedeat these areas, they stabilize the ground on these steep slopes and most importantly, they create buffers in key areas that enhances our water quality at the Club
