Today, the 2” gravel layer was installed across the floor of your new bunkers on holes 5, 14 and 17. The gravel layer will be sprayed with a polymer to bind it up, yet keep in porous. This layer is the key component of a “Better Billy Bunker.” Named after former ANGC superintendent and now successful architect, Billy Fuller, this construction method allows water to move through this gravel layer without washing sand as it moves. This is maintenance advancement because it saves labor from shoveling sand and fixing washouts. It’s a great program!
While the turf isn’t fully in growth mode due to the cold weather, your golf course is coming right along. I’m very excited for what will be our best season yet!
