Thursday Sod

It was such a beautiful day in Highlands!  The course is really coming along nicely and it's going to be a fantastic year. The greens look as healthy as they ever have for this time of year.

Over 10,000 square feet of sod was installed today, primarily on the 5th hole, where several dead white pines were removed and the stumps excavated. This is the same area once inundated with English Ivy, an incredibly invasive species.  This area is very playable now, although don't expect many big bounces down onto the fairway from up here.  The main reason for digging the stumps and roots was to eliminate the "hard pan" that would still exist if the stumps were simply grinded down.  Another 10,000ft2 of sod awaits for us in the morning, which will be installed on the 15th hole.
