Monday

Unfortunately the snowfall from a week ago continues to linger, making many areas on the golf course difficult to access with equipment.  That's not stopping us from making progress though.  Behind the 8th green, we will be installing a curb along the cart path edge, using this nice granite.  Since we can't be on the golf course in the morning due to ice, our team is prepping the rock and getting ready for when we can access the course in the afternoon.  We are doing our best to plow the cart paths so we can access the areas we need to.  Each granite stone is cut in half with a diamond tip cutting wheel so we essentially double our inventory of rock.  This is time consuming work but again, it will allow us to move quickly once we get it out to #8 in the afternoon.

Lyn and William are sawing each individual stone in half.

6 pallets of rock are sitting behind the maintenance building. The stones are long enough that we are able to saw them in half, giving us the quantity of 12 pallets of stone curbing.

This afternoon, the team started excavating the edge of the cart path as well as cutting a sharp 90 degree edge on the asphalt so the rock curb fits snug between turf and asphalt.

Matthew, Darren and Michael are busy preparing and welding steel that will be our new trash receptacles on the golf course.  Above, you'll notice about 6 horseshoes that will be bent to form a handle on the trash can lids.  These aren't just any old horseshoes, however.  These are horseshoes that have been found on property over the years during many of our projects.  These are horse and mule shoes that were used during the construction of Highlands CC in the 1920's.  They were grinded down and cleaned as best we could. There have been several drainage projects over the last 5 years that yielded a few shoes a day.  It is exciting to find one during a project but it's even more special to incorporate them into this project.  It's rare to be able to find them in this good of shape.  Most are rusted and brittle.

Matthew is working on the details of our new trash receptacles.

Tim, Gary, Brandon and Wayne are busy playing with adult Lincoln logs! Our new potting shed is being constructed at the Farm.  Before the snow event, 8 days ago, we covered all the materials and the foundation so that when the snow stopped, we could pull the tarp off and work, like nothing had happened.  An efficient greenkeeping team thinks a few steps ahead of Mother Nature!  Using the book we created with photos and numbered logs, we are putting them back in the same way they were taken a part.
