Tuesday Update

The infamous HCC sign on the front entrance pillar received a little face-lift using 220 grit sandpaper.  I spent several years trying all kinds of metal cleaners and polishers with no success whatsoever.  Who would have thought it was this easy?

Laying sod on #12...the rock is coming to life!  I think this is going to be such an attractive three dimensional feature.  Green Tee Golf, our contractor, did such a great job uncovering more of the bedrock.

#12 fairway, as well as #11 fairway are just about ready for sod. 21,000ft2 of sod will be delivered next Monday, March 29th, to finish these two holes.  you can see the sand capped portion of #11 fairway below, where the lighter colored sand is.

Above, we started mowing roughs for the 1st time in 2021, today.  Yesterday, fairways were mowed.  It's rewarding to see these surfaces after the brown tips are removed from the grass.  The golf course is coming right along.  Everything is nice and healthy and we are set up for a great year!  Below, tees are being treated with a liquid fertilizer combination in addition to two fungicides to clean up the rare patch of snow mold and also as a preventative measure for spring take-all patch (another fungal disease that impacts creeping bentgrass in our climate).

Our team is busting their tails to get out 2 tractor trailer loads of sod today.  This is the equivalent of 18,000ft2 of grass, being laid at 8ft2 per piece!  That works out to 2,250 pieces of sod being put in place by 1o team members.  That works out to 225 pieces of sod per person/day with each piece weighing 50lbs.  That is a lot of bending over with weight...each person will lift 11,250 lbs throughout the day.  This crew is the best!

The creek on #15 that was opened up is sodded and looks sharp!  Just think...this creek was covered up for 93 years!

Sod installation continues, working its way toward the back of the green.
