It was a rather chilly day, but it wasn't raining which meant we had a great, productive day.
Irrigation is being installed on the recently cleared out area above the 15th green. A total of 6 sprinkler heads are being placed about 60 feet apart from one another on the hillside.
Gary continues on the blower, getting the bulk of the golf course cleaned up. 2020/2021 was a great year if you harvest pine cones for a living. I'm not sure why, but we've never seen so many pine cones fall from our White Pines than we have this year.
You can see the new cart path at the croquet lawn, as it was flipped to the other side of the Oak tree. This path will be poured using a pervious concrete mix. This will help the tree and its root system survive below the path.
A view of the steps from Donald Ross Rd and the contractor's team finishing the cap stone on the upper wall. We'll be installing landscaping in another week or so. Handrails have yet to be installed.
Check out the unique touch on the clubhouse corner of the lawn. We used boulders in the corner that transition to small native stone drystack. There is no real reason for this other than adding a little interest to the look.
Our river rock drainage ditch off the side of Cobb Rd, behind the 3rd green, is both good looking and more importantly, very functional. No longer will sheet flow enter the golf course in this location.
We have some beautiful white roots taking hold on the new croquet lawn!
#12 impact area is now capped with sand and will be ready for sod early next week.
Edging cart paths: is there anything more gratifying?
Once the sand is removed from the bunkers, irrigation hoses are being used to flush the remainder of sand and debris through the system and also to test the effectiveness of the existing drainage. We did have 3 cases (Holes #2,3 and 17) where the drain pipe was crushed, impeding the water's ability to move through the pipe. Those issues have been resolved. Now it is a matter of edging the bunkers and filling them with new sand. The contours on the outside of the bunkers are being reworked so water isn't channeled into the bunkers.
And finally, we spent the better part of the day chipping debris. These were some odds and ends we didn't get to earlier this winter or piles that remained from prior work.
