Wednesday

Mount Highlands continues to grow on the 11th fairway.  Gary Dalton, one of our greenkeepers who raced motocross through his teen years, claims if he started at #11 green and was able to hit 80 mph at the base of this ramp, he could clear the creek and land on the forward tee.  Granted, OSHA will prevent us from trying this but regardless, it's fun to think of Gary flying tree top level above #11.  I digress.  It's probably best we get this pile of soil spread out, raising the fairway 18" before anyone gets anymore ideas.  For those new to the blog, this pile is from the massive excavation required at the new croquet lawn.  These projects tied together perfectly!

There is no shortage of drainage that can be put in the ground in this climate.  We are trenching lines on #9, 7 and 5 this week.

We planted a few trees today; 2 Norway Spruce behind the 18th green and 2 maples on the right of #1.  Trees always look bigger on the truck compared to when they are planted.  These Norway's had a 40" plus root ball on them and are 15' trees.   Below, if you're an angler, check out what went into the ponds today!  Many of the fish are mature enough to have a beautiful hook jaw!  Some of these Browns will be a challenge to reel in!

Club Lake is currently frozen and required us to break a section of ice to allow it to be stocked.  Billy Brooks, avid fisherman and HCC greenkeeper, personally welcomed every fish before placing them in the water.  This was the greatest day Billy ever had at work!  He was the one who did the research that led to us  stocking with the triple crown...the three main trout species.  Billy, your work is appreciated.
