Thursday Update

While we keep accomplishing the tasks at hand, a snow storm is inevitable which will start tonight and bring as much as 6” of the white stuff to the area. We've got so much momentum and it saddens me to have a minor set back.  We started pre-treating Club roads with salt and we'll have staff working various shifts to keep our roads plowed.

Back to #15...this area is looking so nice as the stumps and logs are hauled off or burned.  The creek has been widened today and it is spectacular.  These photos don't do it justice; imagine the creek defined by green turf on either side of the water.  I can't wait for you to see this and wish we had the resources last year to complete this.  It will look entirely different from 2020!  Chad Stockton is doing a great job with this....another Team HCC project.  If you want to know just how talented Chad is on this excavator, just ask him.  He may even offer to part your hair with the bucket!  A legend in his own mind...

Above: another project we are knocking out this year, is the leveling and raising of sprinkler heads around the greens.  I've identified 110 sprinkler heads that need to be raised flush to the turf.  With a solid sand topdressing program like ours, sprinkler heads can appear to sink as the surrounding turf is built up slowly with sand.  The result is a potential ankle twister, a rules of golf delema in addition to loss off irrigation efficiency and water distribution.  I've passed on this project over the years thinking a new irrigation system was in the works.  However, as we continue to address more important projects, the irrigation system is placed on the backburner.  It is time to get caught up and level these irrigation heads.

Back on #9, we are digging up some areas where water is surfacing on the fairway.  We are repairing those areas as we find them in addition to hauling sand onto the fairway.  By the end of the day, we will have approximately 75 tons of sand spread on this 15,000ft2 area.  It will raise the ground level as much as 6" in areas.  This will improve surface flow of water as well as level the fairway and the many "bird baths" that hold water.  By springtime, you will have a much drier and firmer #9 fairway.  This work is being accomplished with Team HCC.  The goal is to have sod back on the fairway by late next week.
