Agronomic Cultural Practices

With the golf course closed for the day, we started on some critical cultural practices on the golf course.  It is important we start these practices now, before the ground freezes.  This is why we cannot wait until the golf course closes in late-November/ 1st of December.  Above, we are Graden-sand injection verticutting all of the approaches on the golf course.  This process will take a better part of a week.  The small channels created by this machine are about 1" deep and 3mm wide, spaced out 1" apart, and immediately backfilled with sand.  This is a great program to firm up our approaches by incorporating sand consistently at this depth.  This is something we've been doing for the last 10 years and the results speak for themselves.

Also, as you can see below, the practice tee is being aerated and topdressed today.  Chris will be dragging the tee multiple times with a mat to work the sand into the turf canopy.  This does not mean the tee will be closed for the year.  In another couple days, you won't be able to tell anything has been done.

Again, thank you for your patience with these couple projects and understanding of the urgency we have to complete them now, while the course is still open and the ground in an unfrozen state.

Finally, I would like to remind you that next Monday, November 9th, we will be "DryJecting" greens two directions and approaches one direction.  This will create some disturbance for a few days until we are able to roll greens and better distribute sand that is left on the surface.
