With more rain on the way this week, we got some additional fertilizer applied to the rough. The golf course remains in good condition but it's its going to take all of us to keep it that way if this weather pattern continues. An example of how you can help is pictured below.
Since guest play has been eliminated due to COVID19, we benefit from only members (the folks who know this golf course the best) playing on a daily basis. Most all are aware of the perennial wet spots on the golf course and avoiding them should be easy. This summer allowed us to see some areas where drainage improvements are needed. There are other areas where we realize drainage is needed (#11 for example) but the project is more complicated and will take additional resources than what we budget on an annual basis. The last thing we want to do is leave the course, cart path only. If golfers are smart about where they drive and pay attention to the low lying areas, there isn't a reason we can't successfully navigate the fairways on a year that's been this damp. Keep in mind, there are 4.5 months left in 2020 and we've essentially hit the our annual average rainfall total in August!
Yesterday, we used a crane at the irrigation pump-house to remove a bad motor. Our pump-station consists of three, 75 horsepower motors. One of the 3 motors recently went south. While we haven't been irrigating the golf course, the system has other uses besides watering turf.
