After 17 years of faithful service, our topdresser's life has finally come to end today on #10. This afternoon, we made a sand application to greens and approaches. We made it to the 10th hole before the inner-workings of the equipment finally gave up, a day we knew wasn't too far away. Our sand applications will unfortunately slow down for the remainder of the year until we can get to the point of purchasing a new topdresser. Until then, we will be applying sand through designated fertilizer push spreaders. Sand topdressing is probably the most critical cultural practice a Superintendent can do to firm up playing surfaces and keep the soil physical properties below a green in proper condition for maximum performance. It's not an easy feeling going without a reliable topdressing machine.
