With our irrigation aging well beyond its useful life, we are constantly replacing failing parts, including drain valves. Matthew dug up this on #6, which revealed and interesting soil profile.

Below, a new valve was installed.

I numbered the various soil horizons to show how this changed over the years.
#1, which is about 3" thick, is the organic layer and sand topdressing material. This is an accumulation since 2009.
#2. In 2009, we did an extensive drainage project with Turf Drainage of America Co. All the spoils removed from the ditches were spread across the fairway to raise the area up. This layer is 10" thick.
#3. This is where ground level used to be pre-2009. Notice the sand from the heavy topdressings.
#4. Finally, this is the subsoil pre-2009.
