Wednesday

The guys got started on the project of renovation the iconic HCC structure at #18 forward tee.  This shelter has taken a few hits by golf carts and has settled slightly over the last few years.  We're able to level it and replace the posts that need it.  Come a few weeks from now, you won't know we were there.

New white boards were installed in the team break room today.  We are always looking at ways to be more efficient and this helps direct the crew in the morning and after lunch.  The circles on the right represent tees, greens or approaches which allows us to highlight a line to indicate which direction the greens-mowers need to mow on a particular day.  We rotate: front to back, side to side, left to right and right to left (angles).  The ultimate goal is to never mow the same lines twice. Doing so, could result in a grainy putting surface and turf that lacks an upright growth habit.

Inside the fence of the loading dock behind the clubhouse, is a drain that has started to cavitate the asphalt above it.  This area receives a lot of heavy equipment traffic like delivery trucks and garbage trucks.  In an effort to prevent the culvert pipe from collapsing, we are digging it up to investigate where the soil is going and get that corrected.  We are almost there but it wasn't easy.  We first had to cut and fight a heck of a layer of asphalt.

Moving right along on the covered equipment storage building next to our practice facility maintenance facility.

Finally, Paul and Kevin are applying a new coat of epoxy paint to the floor of our shop.  This really cleans the look up.  We all take great pride in our maintenance facility at Highlands CC.  A clean, well kept maintenance facility is usually a sign of a clean, well kept golf course.  If you don't believe me, get out there and see some other facilities! 😳  I'm proud of the high standard we have for this entire operations area.  That's often times not the case at many other courses I've seen.  It all starts right here.  If the greenkeeping staff doesn't care about this area, it's hard to believe  they would care about the golf course.
