highlandsweather.net

If you are looking for accurate weather data and forecasts, look no further than highlandsweather.net.  This website was founded and maintained by local Highlander, Kenton David.  His forecasts- especially snow predictions in the winter- are always spot on. The weather Channel on the other hand, collects much of their data from various weather stations located no where near Highlands. In fact, there snow prediction models are based on data from a station on the NC- TN boarder, an area known for intense snowfall accumulations. Weather.com is great for one thing...their interactive maps.  If you look in the Highlander Newspaper, their weather data (particularly rainfall year to date) is never correct. Year to date, we’ve had over 60” of rain thus far. In the June 20 edition of the newspaper, the Highlands Biological Station is reporting 44.5” for year to date rainfall. See the chart below to get accurate figures.  This information is available on the highlandsweather.net website.  For obvious reasons, I have a great interest in meteorology and it is nice to have accurate models available to us and based right here in Highlands.
