Monday

It's a damp dreary day in Highlands, so I apologize for the poor quality photos.  Stillwell Construction started today on replacing the 6" main line (irrigation) that connects the front nine and back nine.  Originally a ductile iron pipe, this 6" line was rusted in so many areas that we could no longer contain the leaks.  We are replacing it with HDPE pipe, something new to the golf industry within the last 10 years.  The great thing about HDPE, is there are no fittings and thus, it can't ever break.  This type of material can stay in the ground for many, many years.  Below is the machine that fuses the pipe together.

We hauled a few loads of soil to the edge of the cart path on #18 to create a berm.  This feature is aimed at potentially slowing golf balls that trickle towards the cart path.

We are also planting a fair amount of trees today.  Below, we did a fair amount of work on the left side of #10 which also includes sealing off a few areas visible from the golf course.  Today 8 hemlocks were planted on the left of the hole.  Hemlocks are very economical trees and very easy to treat for the wholly adelgid.  Also note the nice layer of fairway topdressing sand applied to the fairway.

The guys pulled the ductile iron irrigation line out of the culvert and are cutting it up to be hauled away.
