Turf matting for parking areas

A popular parking place option for Highlands residents to use that doesn't count towards their impervious service of their property (per town zoning ordinances) is a product similar to this.  I see it used by a number of landscapers, all who use it improperly.  Before you commit to this, please understand how the product works.  Grass seed that germinates UNDER the mat, will grow up through it, creating a green surface from a distance.  The mat protects the crown of the grass plant from the weight and abrasion of car tires.  However, local landscapers put this down, then sod over it!  It defies common sense.  In nearly every case, I see the homeowner remove it because it "doesn't work" or resod the parking area.  It would work relatively nicely if installed properly.  It is meant to be used with seeded turf, not sod unfortunately.  If you are thinking about this product and need a professional opinion, please call me before you are mislead into installing it improperly, wasting money.
