Fraze Mowing

Since it was introduced in 1996 by Dutch sports field manager Ko Rodenburg, it has become quite popular in the UK, especially within the soccer industry. Stadiums have used the cultural treatment technique — which removes the top ¼ inch to 2 inches of turf from fields — to eliminate most, if not all, organic buildup, Poa annua seeds and thatch.

After that portion of the turf is removed, the underground rhizomes and stolons generate new grass shoots and the field recovers on its own.  The practice works well on flat surfaces and works better on warm season turf species, like Bermudagrass since they are so aggressive and grow quickly compared to cool season turf (what we have in Highlands).  In the UK, they are doing this on Kentucky Bluegrass sports fields as well.  I do think this has a lot of potential for driving range tees in the southern US.  I am not so sure about fairways and anything with contours and mounding.
