Greening Up!

With all the rain we've been getting, you can see just how green the fairways are becoming.  The other thing you are seeing is the benefits of late season fertility.  By applying fertilizer to turf in November, it gets in the plant and stored as carbohydrates as the soil temps are still warm and the air temps are cooler.  Once warmer weather arrives in the spring, that turf has a head start over unfertilizer turfgrass because the nutrients are in place.  In any cool season turf like we have in Highlands, late season fertility is the most important application a superintendent can make all year long.
