Tuesday

This morning, we are taking the chipper around the golf course one last time trimming and trees or Rhododendron that may have been damaged during all of our winter work.  This process takes 2 days just to get all of the areas we addressed looking good.  Once this is complete, we are going back around to pick up any stump grinding material and mulch from the chipper.  After this week, all of our efforts will be focused on cleanup and gearing up for Spring.  April is right around the corner...it is scary how fast the time goes by.

Above, we are going to be removing this white pine between #9 green and the parking lot.  Our arborist once said he can't believe this tree hasn't fallen yet.  You can see the heavy lean in addition to rotten wood beneath the bark and a thinning crown.  Unfortunately, it needs to go because it is dying.  Removing trees to improve turf quality is fun and exciting because I know the benefits are right around the corner.  Removing trees like this one is comparable to putting a new roof on your house.  It's expensive and you do it because you have to.  There is no benefit other than eliminating a safety hazard.

The barge is off in the water!  I am looking forward to see this thing start pumping sediment!  Note the heavy duty stakes sitting in grass next to the muck bag.  Believe it or not, the crew needs to stake these bags down and level them with pallets or else they will roll away once they start pumping into it.  It is hard to believe something this large and heavy could roll away.
