Wednesday

Above, we received 2 trees today to be planted on the course.  As you can see, they are HUGE red maples.  In fact, Koty may use this as his Christmas card this year.  One is going to be planted at #18 Jones tee to hide the telephone pole in the background.  Obviously, depending on your location in the fairway, this line of sight changes.  It is impossible to block the pole from all angles.  Therefore, it is being planted to hide the pole from the center of the fairway, 125 yards from the green.   Furthermore, pushing the tree forward will create issues in just a few years by blocking the Jones tee.

The staff laid a truck load of bluegrass this morning and the first half of the 6th fairway is nearing completion.  We started cutting the sod from the 2nd half of the fairway.  In addition to this, fairways and intermediate rough were mowed for a final time this year.  Next week, we hope to begin aerifying roughs.  When mowing slows down and ceases, it frees up man hours to be spent elsewhere.

The rest of the day is dedicated to fun...the annual employee golf outing for golf maintenance staff.  For the last 10 years, I've arranged this and allow each staff member to bring a guest.  It is great for them to enjoy their hard work and see the course from another perspective!
