All paving is complete! You will also notice all pillars are decorated with Holiday wreaths. A class touch for those of you lucky enough to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas in the Mountains!
With the help of a local grading contractor, we got our trees installed on #5 and #18. Both of these Maples will add a lot to these holes.
I was asked today why we planted Poplars on the 14th hole several years ago. The answer is simple. While it isn't necessarily the prettiest of all trees, it is a species that has a very upright growth habit, grows quickly and is native. As an added bonus, they lose their leaves early which helps us with clean up. Compare this to the Oak which is slow growing and has leaves lingering into December. Maples, have entirely too much lateral growth and would not fit in that area. Plus, their roots tend to stay on top of the ground. The objective was to break up the cart path and provide protection of the 15th tee boxes. Poplars were the most logical choice to achieve this.
Above, Jerry Dalton is finishing up the new railings on the rain shed on #18. Once the treated lumber dries, we will apply 2 coats of white paint. Below, David and Chris (Building Maintenance) are replacing all of the cedar shake roofs on the golf course rain shed. It is hard to say David and Chris since I've been saying Freddie and David for 15 years!!
