Sand delivery

Keeping dry sand on hand is extremely helpful.  It allows us to topdress greens without being noticed as the dry sand falls into the turf canopy.  Wet sand on the other hand, require drying time on the surface before it can be dragged with a brush.  More labor is required.  In order to keep dry sand stocked at all times, we have a sand silo at the maintenance building.  It holds 30 tons of sand that is brought from Columbia, SC in a pneumatic tanker truck.  The sand is pumped into the silo.  Under the silo is a gravity fed valve.  We simply back our equipment under the silo and open the valve to fill it.  It is a pretty neat operation and we are grateful to have it at HCC.  This load of sand will be used to DryJect greens on Monday.
