Landscaping the operations area

You might recall I had numerous Spartan Junipers removed from the operations area that surround the administration building parking lot, golf maintenance and the manger home.  For the last 6 years, I fought a mite that was feeding on these trees as well.  Furthermore, they simply outgrew the space.  They were ugly, too big and bare in spots.

Today, we are replacing them with Hemlocks.  I am often asked, why plant Hemlocks given the issue we face with the Wholly Adelgid?  Well for one, they are inexpensive at $50/tree.  Second, treating small hemlocks is very inexpensive and simple using a granular Imidichlorpid product.  In fact, I can treat all of these trees (25) for about $100/year.  The Hemlock is still a great tree provided you are willing to treat every other year or annually in our case.
