Hemlock Treatments for HWA

In the last week, all Hemlocks on the golf course have once again been treated with Imidichlorpid to prevent the hemlock Wholly Adelgid (HWA) from feeding on these trees.  This is a systemic insecticide that gets in the sap of the trees and is translocated throughout.  This treatment has been very effective.  Of course, we are not able to treat every single tree; it isn't financially feasible.  Therefore, we focus on those trees that are important to the golf course.  I prefer the use of soil injections and drenches as opposed to trunk injections.  Research has proven soil applications to be more effective.
