After all of that rain, the pond on the course are sparkling clean!  You can see straight down to the bottom.  One would think the exact opposite...usually the ponds are turbid following heavy rains due to sediment, runoff and other contaminates.

It's that time of year!  While I think it is the most beautiful of times, some of our greens receive little, if any, sun.  #16 for example is lucky to receive 1-2 hours of sun each day.  This is near impossible to maintain quality turfgrass under these conditions.  Turf requires a minimum 6 hours of sun daily in order to recover from the everyday stresses we give it.  This could mean golf traffic, rolling, mowing etc.  Remember, there is nothing natural about creeping bentgrass mowed under 1/8".

Is this the magic bullet for earthworm control?  This organic fertilizer has shown huge potential in reducing earthworm populations.  The fertilizer base contains tea seed meal that is know to suppress earthworm populations.  I recently purchased 10 bags and applied the fertilizer at 15 lbs/1000ft2 (1/2 lb N/M) on fairways #3,6 and 8.  I hope to have a good idea in a week or two regarding its effectiveness.  This has potential.  At the same time, it is unfortunate it is tied to a fertilizer.  If we can get 5 weeks control, I am not excited about the idea of applying organic fertilizers multiple times per year.  The release characteristic of organics are not as predictable as synthetic fertilizers.  This means there could potentially be a build up of nutrients dependent on forces out of my control.
