I get more questions on how to rid lawns of moles. This is a common problem in the mountains. Well, my secret weapon is non other than crew member, Gary Dalton, a 3 year employee of HCC. Gary has a knack for stepping the tunnel down and flipping the mole out, getting it to a "secure undisclosed location." Today we got an emergency call to the croquet court where a mole was working its way out onto the court while members were playing! Above, is the end result. No mole stands a chance at HCC.
Moles burrow through the ground, feeding on earthworms. It is illegal to use pesticides to kill moles in North Carolina. It isn't an environmental law either. Rumor has it, 50 or more years ago a man killed his wife, poisoning her food with mole bait. After the trial, the chemical was outlawed. The only way to get rid of them is through mechanical, or in this case, manual traps in NC. That is a crazy, but true story.
