Fairway Interseeding

Today we are inter seeding fairways with colonial bentgrass.  In the past, we interseeded annually with a bentgrass mix known as PennTrio, a mix developed at Penn State University.  However, after speaking with some of my superintendent friends in New England, I decided to try some colonial bentgrass this year.  I am interested to see what kind of germination we get and what kind of texture it has down the road.  In my opinion, interseeding has really increased the density of turf and our bentgrass population in our fairways. Given our fairways were never established initially with creeping bentgrass, we have great quality fairways that get better every year. Interseeding, topdressing, cultural practices (aerifying, grooming and verticutting) and growth regulator applications have all helped increase fairway quality.
