Day 2 of the Plant Health Academy

The 2nd day of the Bayer/GCSAA Plant Health Academy has shifted to GCSAA Headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas.  Our agenda for the day focuses on Issues facing the golf course industry, advocacy efforts to protect the game of golf, environmental resources and finally a presentation on social media and it's uses. Later tonight, we are touring the Allen Fieldhouse at the University of Kansas.

The greatest benefit is talking to my fellow supers from around the county.  For example, my friend at Omaha CC in Nebraska is here as well.  We had a long discussion about bentgrass varieties and inter seeding practices. I will return to HCC with a fresh perspective on a variety of topics.  As I said before, it is great working for a General manager, green committee and membership who support this type of continuing education and see it for what it is: a direct benefit to HCC!  I am so grateful for HCC supporting a career position like this.

Finally, I am grateful for companies like Bayer who provide the financial resources to allow superintendents like myself to attend.  Obviously, we support Bayer through the purchase of turfgrass fungicides and insecticides who then invest back into the industry.
