Today we are installing an Annual Bluegrass Weevil monitoring trap. A diagram of the trap is pictured below. Annual bluegrass weevils or (ABW) are small insects that feed on annual bluegrass or
Poa annua. During winter months the insects will migrate into taller rough areas and defined tree lines along the golf course and surrounding areas. When temperatures begin to warm in the spring the ABW will travel to low mowed turf such as a fairway cut or approach. Most of the annual bluegrass here at HCC is located in the outer most region of our fairways, this is where damage from these insects can most prevalent.

Below you can see our placement of the trap is directly before the fairway. This is in order to catch the insects as they travel from the wood line to the fairway during the next few months. This trap will help allow us to keep a count of the amount of insects that are inhabiting the area we are monitoring. Keeping a count will allow us to treat for the weevil before damage may occur. Just another great way we can keep your golf course in great shape!
