We are getting covers on 4 of the greens today. We will cover 1, 2, 8 and 16. These are the more shade prone greens and have more traffic issue than the others. I look at covers as a way to speed up the growing process in late winter and early spring. The covers only keep the greens about 10* warmer underneath. Therefore, we don't gain much from keeping them covered all winter. Plus, the intense wind we receive in the winters make them more of a headache. However, an additional 10* is extremely beneficial on 50* days in March. It can speed the winter recovery process along by a couple weeks. At some point, it may be wise to invest in covers for all 18 greens and use them into April.
Jerry is wrapping up fairway verticutting. I am looking forward to getting this behind us so we can get fairways cleaned up and topdressed. We have a lot of detail work to get done to get ready for the season.
