Christian and I had the opportunity to spend the last 3 days in Pinehurst as part of a BASF Chemical Co education event. In addition, we played golf and met with several other superintendents.
The neatest part was seeing the changes to the No.2 course. Some 30 acres of turf has been removed and restored to native areas. Even the total number of irrigation heads decreased as the goal is to only keep the centers of the fairways "lush." No. 2 went from 1200 irrigation heads to about 450 so the golf course remains firm and dry.
