If you notice us digging around greens, you are probably wondering what we are up to. All USGA greens, like those at HCC, are equipped with drainage pipe under the surface. When the greens were built in 1998, they are also equipped with a flush-out end and the daylight end. Over the last year, we have been locating each end to ensure that not only water can pass through but also, air. If either end is blocked, gasses can accumulate under the green and can impact turf quality. As you can see on this 'as-built' diagram of the 4th green, there is a flush-out on the back of the green and the internal drainage all moves to the front of the green.
