At Highlands CC, we are fortunate for Club Lake. This gives us an unlimited supply of water for essentially free of charge with the only cost being the electricity to pump it out. Many golf courses in the country use municipal water supplies and or effluent water from water treatment plants. City water can be very expensive...even up to $200,000 a year! When a golf facility uses effluent water, it commits to so many gallons per day. That said, even if it was raining excessively, the facility is still required to irrigate with it! You simply can't let it go downstream. So how good is our water??? Too good! The water quality is so clean, our irrigation water acts as a "stripper" that removes nutrients from the soil. Because of that, we fertilize greens monthly with granular Potassium and Calcitic Lime.
