Green Committee:
As you may know, we mow an intermediate rough cut (6' pass around fairways) at 1.25". That mower has recently had major hydraulic issues and is being sent back to Toro (Charlotte) so they can high pressure flush the hydraulic system. Needless to say, for the next several weeks, we will not have this step cut in the rough. I don't think anyone will notice, but want you to be aware regardless. This has been a tough year with regards to equipment R&M. Please be aware in case you are asked about it. Rest easy knowing the best mechanic in the business is on top of it... Paul Dalton!
We also had an irrigation blowout in #3 fairway this morning. If you are in town and see this, that is what happened. This is simply life with an old irrigation system. Other than that, we are progressing nicely. Temps are a bit warmer although more cold evenings are coming Sun-Tues. Lows in the mid 30's.
A project we are starting now is leveling irrigation heads. On our fairways, our sand topdressing program has been so effective, that we raised the elevation in areas as much 5" over the past 10 years. Now, the sprinkler heads sit too low and need to be raised to that level.
If you choose to eat dinner in the Clubhouse this weekend, you will be able to enjoy organic spring mix from the HCC-Stiehler farm. My first major harvest occurred on Wednesday. I spent some time yesterday with Mr. Taylor at Kettlerock Vineyards. I plan to start my own grapes at the Farm next week. These will be eating/table grapes...not wine grapes. Farming has become my newest passion. I am also looking to get into the blueberry business.
Take care,
Brian
