White Pines

Believe it or not, the White Pine is NOT native to Highlands!  They were planted in the late 1800's and took off, naturally.  It is a big challenge on the golf course.  Many of our white pines have reached their last days and tree removal becomes more of an issue.  White pines, to be honest, are horrible trees.  For one, their low branches are often bare of needles.  They are very fragile and are often uprooted.  Throw an ice storm on top of that and you end up with lots of broken limbs.  You can see by these 2 photos, why you do not want them around your home or around a putting green!  This one fell in a member's yard, causing a lot of damage.
